Hi, I'm Emma... a mum of two and a fully qualified primary-teacher-turned-full-time-tutor with over 20 years' experience. I have a passion for helping children build confidence, self-efficacy and success.

I tutor children and teenagers online, one-to-one and in small groups from primary years to S2 in both Maths and Literacy. I offer tuition after school and in the evening, Mon to Thursday, as well as daytime home education options for learners age 5-14 years.

I work in line with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) and use a variety of resources and materials to create a multi-sensory, fun, relaxed online learning environment.

I work with children of all ages, stages and abilities, many of whom have specific learning differences eg. ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia or working memory challenges.

Classes are available all year round, including summer, Easter and other school holidays.

TESTIMONIALS:

"Having Emma join our educational journey was very much a positive boost our child needed. It was getting difficult for our child to be engaged in learning and they weren't feeling confident or capable. She was very patient and understanding of our child's learning process and she took into consideration his capabilities and abilities. There was never frustration and she built up a level of confidence and trust that enabled our child to feel safe to be himself which I find is difficult to come by. Emma is a lovely tutor and went above and beyond for our child, helping him with engaging in activities he was enthusiastic about, and finding ways of adding that into his lessons. We would recommend Emma to anyone, especially those with children who perhaps are neurodivergent, or children that find the school way of learning difficult. A lovely tutor and all round great person, who is very caring and engaging, she nurtures and tends to individual abilities and that is something you can't put a price on!"

"Emma started tutoring our home-educated son three months ago, and the difference in his confidence - especially with reading - has been remarkable. She has a calm, patient approach that immediately put him at ease, and she explains both Maths and English in a way he genuinely understands. He looks forward to his weekly sessions, which speaks volumes. His progress has been steady and noticeable, and I'm grateful for the encouragement and structure she provides. I would highly recommend her to any parent looking for a supportive, knowledgeable tutor who truly brings out the best in their learners."

"Emma is fab. Very patient and encouraging to her pupils. She really makes sure they understand what they are doing before moving on and adapts strategies to make it easier to understand. My son has always struggled with maths and his confidence really improved as did his results after his sessions with Emma. After one of his first sessions he said, 'Mum, I actually understood something in maths tonight.' Highly recommend Emma for maths tutoring."
(Sandra - parent of an S2 pupil. November, 2025)
"Our daughter, who is 13, has been tutored in English and Maths for the past year, and we're really pleased with the results. Emma is patient, supportive and explains topics in a way that really 'clicks' for her. Her confidence has grown hugely, especially in problem-solving and written work. We're very grateful for the consistent, high-quality teaching. Thank you Emma!"
(Ruth - parent of an S1. November, 2025)
"I was looking for a qualified tutor for my primary age daughter and Emma was highly recommended. My daughter was sceptical before the sessions started and did not think she needed a tutor. However, she is now loving the sessions and always comes away so positive and able to explain and comprehend what she was finding difficult at school. I think it helps as Emma is a qualified primary teacher and aware of the curriculum, however makes the sessions fun."
(Laura - parent of a P5 pupil. November, 2025)
My son engages really well with Emma as his classes are interactive and visual which suit him. The material used in his online lessons are appropriate with his level of learning but also challenge him. Emma is patient and encouraging and I would highly recommend her." (Parent of an S1. June, 2025)
"My daughter has developed confidence in maths thanks to Emma's support. Previously, when working on maths at home, she would often say, "I can't do this." With the right guidance and one-on-one instruction that Emma provides, my daughter has made significant progress. Emma demonstrates remarkable patience and is highly attentive to my child's needs."
(Jennifer - parent of a P4 pupil. June, 2025)
"Emma is great with our son. She is patient and allows him to think over his answers without pressure. She teaches at pace which gives him time to absorb the lesson and develop his understanding. His confidence in Maths  has increased as a result."
(Parent of a P7 pupil. June, 2025)

"Our home-educated daughter has worked with Emma weekly for the best part of two years. Emma has been amazing and would thoroughly recommend her to anyone."
(Jonny - parent of an S2 pupil. June 2025)
"My eight year old has been coming to Emma for a while now and has gotten so much more confidence in his maths. I've asked him how he's feeling about Emma's group class and this is what he says:
'Emma is great. The class is fun, relaxed and she makes things understandable. If I get an answer wrong she will help me understand where I went wrong. Her explanations are better and I prefer it to school maths.' I would highly recommend this class with Emma."
(Heather - parent of a P4. March, 2024)
"Where do I start..? Emma is amazing! My daughter lacked confidence with her maths and after a few lessons her confidence had really grown. She works at her own pace and can ask as many questions as she needs without the pressure of trying to finish with her class. I wouldn't say she loves maths now, but it certainly isn't the struggle for her the way it was before."
(Dianne - Parent of an S1 pupil. January 2022)
"We have been logging into Emma's online book club for 4 weeks now and my 9-year-old son looks forward to it every week. He thoroughly enjoys it as Emma makes it fun, while learning too (even though he doesn't think he is learning!) It's a lovely relaxed space and when he logs off he is buzzing! Would definitely recommend to anyone with a child, whether they love books or not! 5*"

"Emma has a real gift of knowing how to engage with my son, making his tutoring sessions fun and something he looks forward to. It has not only helped improve his reading ability, but has also helped build his confidence and has installed a much more "can do attitude," something which he really struggled with before. Emma has taken the time to really get to know my son and has adapted her teaching techniques to include material on dinosaurs and Minecraft so he really engages with his reading. I don't know what we would have done without Emma. She is patient, passionate and cares so much about helping children meet their potential. I can't recommend her highly enough, and the difference she has made to my son's confidence and attitude towards reading and school work is enormous."
(Mairi - parent of a P5 pupil. August, 2020)
"Emma is just fab! She helped my daughter, who has dyslexia, gain a huge amount of confidence. Going back to basics and relearning core foundations of Maths and English has helped her gain an understanding of the S1 and S2 curriculum. Emma gives 100%+ at each session. Not only has my daughter been helped but we have also made a lovely family friend."
(Lindsey - parent of an S2. August, 2020)
"Emma provides an invaluable tutoring service to my two children. Emma provides one-to-one, supportive lessons which are pitched just at the right level. Lessons are always fun and engaging and my children enjoy their time with Emma each week. As my 11-year-old says, 'she reaches me in the right way and explains everything really well.' As a teacher I recognise the excellent teaching and learning delivered by Emma. Emma is helping my two children prepare for the transition to high school and the sessions have massively improved their confidence, knowledge and skill set. I will be continuing to use Emma's high quality tutoring service for the foreseeable and can't recommend her service enough."
(Emma - parent of a P5 and P7. August 2020)

"We approached Emma to tutor our daughter in maths just to build confidence and speed in mental calculations. So glad we did. Our daughter now looks forward to her online sessions. Emma always has loads of content organised for each session and knows exactly the level our daughter is at. Always get an update at the end of each session. Money well spent to see our daughter progress in a once-disliked subject. I would highly recommend Emma's Online Classroom."
